Bad coils?

So in my troubleshooting of my no spark problem, I tested the secondaries of both coils (between the HT caps) and they both read open...From the article I found, arent they both supposed to be between 30k-35k ohms?

The primary sides read 4.2 and 5.2 respectively. A little high, IMO.

I checked the signal generator resistance, and both were 163 ohm, so that is good. Once I figure out the HT coil issue, I can then test the igniter.

I just found out that both my coils are good! I thought that having both coils go bad is a bit strange. Both coils checked out at 34k ohms, which is still within tolerance. The culprit are the boots. I managed to get 2 good boots out of the 4, and checked the coils with those. Having said that, what resistor boots are suitable replacements for the bike? What does the resistance need to be? When I checked the boots, they were around 10k ohms.

You can still buy OEM resister caps, or NGK resister caps.

5 ohm caps can be purchased at most foreign auto parts stores, bring your old ones to match up

So I did the test with the ohm meter to check the igniter, and it did not produce spark on either the #1 or #2 spark plug. I did test the coils by connecting 12v and temporarily grounding them to produce spark. It did spark, so the coil is fine. The signal generator's resistance is 162 ohm on both sets of wires, so that is okay.

I found the article on bike cliffs site about using two gm HEI modules for a gs1000g. Would this work for my bike? I noticed the guts of my ignitor are slightly different than the one in the tutorial.
