I have a longish ride, 2800km return trip coming up on the old GS1000S and I am doing all I can to make sure she will be reliable. Top of the list is electrical and ensuring I have a reliable charging system. After reading all the recommendations here I have invested in a Compufire series R/R and a Ricks stator winding. (Along with brakes, LED headlight, tyres, chain and sprockets etc etc)
Now it comes to wiring, and I see that the original wiring runs one phase of the 3 phase alternator through the headlight switch and the other two phases go direct to the R/R. My question is: Can I just hook up all 3 phases directly to the R/R or do I still go through the headlight wiring?
