New plug wires for OE coils - '79 GS850

Is it possible to put new plug wires on the original coils of my '79 GS850?

    Thanks in advance.

I think BassCliff has a write up on that on his site.
Suzuki GS motorcycles maintenance and information (GS850GT)

Yes, it's possible. I did the same thing a while back and think the coils are similar.

Sorry I must be blind. At Bikecliff's site I see "SIMPLE COIL REPAIR" but that is about fixing a low voltage coil connection but nothing about high voltage wires to coil.

I saw it somewhere, thought it was there.

Anyway, I sent a PM to you with some tips.

On my 1982 GS1100GK it was simple.

Pull the old wires from the coil. They're glued in at the insulation of the wire. The inside connection is a spike, unthreaded. When the wire is removed, insulation remains fixed to the coil by the glue. The glue, with insulation, easily chips out well enough to leave a smooth bore. Excess glue on the face of the coil body is easily ground or filed down. I used 7mm copper core wire purchased from O'Reilly's auto parts and gorilla glue brand glue for my new wires. A little glue and a little time later and all has been well for about 2 years now.

I found a thread in the old tech section that tells how to remove old wires here:

This forum contains old posts which may have information which may be useful. It is a closed forum in that you can not post here any longer. Please post your questions in the other technical forums.

Here is what it looks like now. Those holes are 1 1/4" and 1 3/4" deep.

i was thinking I needed a new coil but I think the coil is good but one of the end caps is shot.
