Speedometer needle replacement - is it possible?

So I have a pile of '83 1100E instrument cluster parts, that have been sitting in a box since a GSR member gave them to me a few (or several?) years ago.
It looks like I have everything I need to build one complete unit.

The speed face is nicer on the one with the broken needle, so I would like to replace it with the good needle.
But boy, that sure looks like something I could easily break, if I don't do it correctly.

So, can the speedo needle be removed and replaced? Or is it something best avoided.

I have done it, but I have also broken a needle doing it. My second try was sucessful. I used a fork to get under the needle to pry it off of the post.

There are curved-fork prybars and reversed pliers available, I have seen them both used successfully.

It sad when things break. The Nippon Seiki folks have the only proper needle removal tool ever made and only one guy is trained on how to use it.

Ive removed needles it requires a straight shock pull.

I broke mine... fixed it with super glue about 5 years ago... still intact.

Thanks everyone, but I chickened out and used the gauge with the good needle.
Turned out just fine.

I got the same message. Copied the link to paste it into a new tab, so I could edit it. Opened the new tab, pasted the link, it showed the picture. Not a very good indication of what it is and how it works, but the link is valid.

Noticed your redline is 9.5k. Many are 9k. Anybody know why?

AFAIK...The '82s had a 9K redline, and the '83s had the 9.5 redline.

I'm talking about '83's. I have '83 clocks on my '82 (for the 140 speedo), and the tach redlines at 9. I think most of the '83 11E tachs I've seen redline at 9.

I believe ALL '83 cranks are welded. Some say late production '82's are also welded. Maybe halfway through '83, the factory said, "Hey. These are welded. We can push the redline up a wee bit."

The 9.5 tach is cool. I wish I had one, but it's not nearly as important as the 140 speedo. Especially for a guy who likes to do the buck nearly every time he rides.
