anyone have a diagram of how to connet the wires on the harness to the switch assembly, no clue how

The wires from the harness should be soldered to a tiny board with copper contacts. That board sits in an obvious groove on the handle assembly. There is a spring and another, this time, u-shaped contact (#14 (plate) in the linked diagram) that bridges the gap between the two other contacts.

If yours is missing the board (elongated piece between #14 and #15 (cover)), then you'll need a new switch assembly. Note there is no part number for the wires proper. Not sure if you could get it separately, but probably not worth the effort in tracking it down.'83 GS650G
