Ignition trigger system, which is ?better??

Question to the Experts.

Which do you prefer, for performance?
The GS1000 two wire electronic pick up, with mechanical advice trigger rotor, with the GS1000 igniter box, or,

The Newer GS850 four wire electronic pick up, with the single trigger rotor, with the newer GS850 igniter box?

Engine is 1980 GS1000G, with big bore piston..

Performance won't be impacted either way. The later 850 system has the advance curve built into the ignitor, the early systems used a mechanical governor.

Are the ignitor box with the "Built In" advance curve, reliable? Meaning a 38 year old electronic box wont go stupid on me, and not advance timing when the revs go up?

I've never heard of the advance curve going off kilter before. The boxes do fail from time to time though, particularly if the charging system is over charging. Personally I wouldn't replace the early system for the later. That doesn't seem like a practical use of resources. Instead, upgrade the charging system by installing a SH775 and rewiring the system to eliminate the stator loop. That's time well spent.

Hi, another option is the Ignitech sparker TCIP-4, I recently purchased one. The unit is pretty slick, programmable and does away with your mechanical advance if you like all for 129 USD. I also bought coils from them so my ignition system will be new and modern. As for reliability of the OEM system, mine has never given me a problem.
