Wacky vin!?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I am finishing up a restoration of a 1979 GS750. I'm trying to figure out the sub model to purchase the correct front caliper rebuild kit. The problem is my vin is kind of weird. It's GS75046834. I can find nothing about this vin and it is stamped on the head tube. Has anyone ever ran across this? Shouldn't it begin with a J? Thanks for any help in advance.

The 17 digit VIN methodology came in after your bike was built. 1981? I'm not sure.

Rebuild parts for those round puck brake pad calipers is getting hard to find. I'm not sure what to suggest other than getting the PN's off Partzilla, or similar, and then hunting the internet. Worst case, replace the caliper with a later model GS caliper. They work better and are readily available.

I can find the rubber bits. Those and new hoses I think will get me going just trying to get it right the first time. thanks for the reply! Would the later model calipers bolt up or would I be fabricating new mounting plates?

If you don't already know single disk and dual disk configurations use different parts for both the calipers and master cylinder.

Check below, as you can see in 1980 the GS750 used 6-digit numbers.
It is a 1979 GS750 N or EN, i would guess N.

Per the chart and Mike's early number, his GS75046834 probably had a Mfg. date in 1978

I'm still learning how to work this site a pic is out of the question at this technologically disadvantaged time lol. When the bike came to me someone had painted every stinking square inch of the bike with a forest green metallic paint. I stripped it to the frame and started from scratch. The bike had spoked wheels, a stepped seat and dual calipers in the front. I trimmed the seat to make it flat basically because the bike was hammered from the start I just built it to resemble a 1977 gs750 with dual calipers. The bike is looking fantastic I agree it looks as though its a gs750n so on the hunt for caliper rebuild kits and hoses. I'm also looking for the lock for the fuel tank cover if anyone has a lead on that one. Thanks for the replies I really appreciate it!

If you want a factory looking seat cover, you could try Pit Replica, their seat covers are reasonable and look very close to the OEM ones.
