Gray material on crank bolt threads?

I was going to do a bottom end inspection on my gs650e and removed all of the crank bolts. While polishing up the bolts prior to reinstall, I noticed a narrow band of gray stuff about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way up the threads.
I don't think the bottom end has been opened up before and the service manual doesn't say to apply thread lock or suzuki bond before reinstall.
Is this possibly coming from the Suzuki Bond 1207B that is applied to the crankcase during assembly?
If so, should I apply some to the threads?

    Yes its likely factory sealant.
apparently Honda used a well metered roller device that the engine builder would use by gliding the case over a table.

      Interesting.
So would be advised to use an equivalent to suzuki bond on the threads before reinstalling?
