slight power loss near redline gs550es

    Hi all,
I'm trying to diagnose an odd issue with my gs550es. I've noticed this in 2nd gear (need to test in 1st still. 3rd and up would have me going much too fast for my local roads), occasionally and unreliably when I get at or near redline there will occasionally be a temporary .5s to 1s where the engine will lose power before gaining it back again. I'm thinking that the most likely cause is a fuel issue, either due to junk in the carbs or some sort of restriction on the fuel line. Would it make sense for the carbs to be the issue if I only see it at high RPM? I'm sort of thinking that fuel supply to the carbs is more likely.

Potentially something with airflow too, but I am assuming that if it were an airflow issue I would also see the problem at lower RPM?

    Thanks!

Why redline? Why try to destroy the engine when most usable power is lower.
it could easily be coils or other ignition bits. A wonky cap. Etc.
are valves in spec, carbs cleaned, airbox and filter properly mounted.??

or is the tach off slightly and you're feeling the onset of valve float......
arrange to have the bike run a circuit that allows you to smoothly run up and down the gearset under varying loads, hills etc.

Thanks for your thoughts on other things that might be off with it - I was hoping it might be something simpler to pinpoint!

I'm seeing the problem intermittently from 10k up. Redlining occasionally shouldn't destroy an engine, and if it does, that's because something was seriously wrong with it. An engine should be able to reach redline without issue, so occasionally getting your engine rpm up there is a way to check the health of the engine and expose that there might be something to look into like I'm doing here.

I'd add that not all bikes can pull redline in top gear.
