Crash Guard Top Mounting Bolt
82 GS1100 GK. I have a set of crash bars from another user here on the forum. This one has the 3 mounting points. Do I need a longer bolt for the top mount, where the engine mounts to the frame? The crash bars attach on either end of this bolt. I'm talking about the long one that goes through the engine block. I think this is the original part. #22.

Your guards should take a little less than a 1/4" of bolt space, look at the nut on your existing mounted bolt to see how much thread is sticking out past the edge of nut. 1/4" and your existing bolt will be good, 1/8" omit the # 24 flat washer and it'll be good... Or go get another bolt 1/4" longer than OEM and forget it... Remember, just my opinion, no guarantees.Last edited by rphillips; Today, 01:32 PM.1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. I would definitely just prefer to get a longer bolt, if I can find one. Which is also why I was asking here. Maybe there's an official part for this?

Wouldn't be concerned about a flat washer, a lock washer would be totally different. In this case the flat of the guard will act exactly the same as the omitted washer... No doubt do whatever "you" are comfortable with, what we think really don't matter.1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. True. Guess I hadn't thought about it like that. Really, then it's just a matter of space. I guess I could measure the thickness of both guard mounts and see if I have more than that sticking out. Enough to be able to thread a nut on. It'll be close if it works at all!Tom
