    Crud on shock coils

My rear shock coils have a hard dull crusty crud on them. I can scrape it off with my fingernails but it takes a toll on them. Once scraped off they are quite shiney. Anyone know of a good cleaner/solvent to easily remove this? Thanks.

try WD-40; it is gentle on seals and will dissolve alot of gunk
