    Hi,

Japanese Automotive Standards Organization. The "MA" means no friction modifiers are used.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

Im sure that old cheap diesel stuff caught a lot of gunk in my engine.
We'll see how much this next oil change catches!
not sure but I notice this every oil change , I'm thinking the simple fact of clean oil in the case is the reason not what brand or type of oil is in it .

the only thing wrong with suzuki oil is the price . the only bad oil is dirty oil in my book . I run fleet farm off brand crap in my dragbike but I change it often . never had a clutch failure or any type of problem in 9 years .

Auto oil is the closest you will find to "bad oil" these days for use in a motorcycle. It's not just a matter of changing it out often, auto oil has less zinc and phosphorus which are critical for high pressure points in the engine.

I'm using castrol Tection 15-40 right now.

The 15-40 is supposed to be better because it has a higher weight base stock and relies less on weight modifiers to get that "40" rating.

Whereas 10 has to go up x4 to get to to 40, 15 has to go up 2.67...
To modify the weight, you have to use weight-modifier molecules, which are super long hydrocarbons. The super long ones get broken down faster, so the end result is that the weight modifiers break down quickly (like first 1000 miles quickly).
The idea is that your 15-40 oil has more of the higher weight base stock than the 10-40 and less of the weight modifiers to break down.
IF that's all right, then the 15-40 will stay more like 40 for longer than the 10-40.

Also, my bike's fill cap is marked 15-40...
After first oil/filter change, I only went about 200 miles before the oil was black. When I changed it, it was pretty gnarly. I'll see if it does the same thing. I don't know anything about this bike except that I don't trust the PO's.

Any of the Rotella oils are fine including the synthetic. For that matter any diesel oil will be fine - I typically buy what's on sale.

Would that include the Rotella T6 5w-40? I've been eying that for the day when I stop burning so damn much oil (Leak down test in progress now, 130-140psi compression hot, smokes like a b$trd out of #1 or 2 over 6000 or so)

From what I can google, it should be fine. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...1725770&page=4
You bet it is. As I said in that other thread, if I had use for a diesel oil this would be the one, no questions asked. Excellent product.
also see... http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...1725770&page=3 the second post down

Mobile-1 is synthetic oil and quite expensive. Mobile Delvac is the normal dino variety diesel oil that typically costs about $10/gallon.

At a local bike/buggy shop the guy offered to pull some oil out of his drum if I brought in a gallon jug, which would save me a couple bucks for the gallon. It was a nice thought at the time but declined his offer and am glad I did after reading this thread! It was going to cost me roughly $20-25 for the gallon! I never thought or knew that diesel oil would work great in these old bikes...I guess I have been that "sucker" always paying for the expensive motor oil specific for motorcycles. So thanks again for re-discussing motor oil. lol
