HOLY SMOKE!!! whats goin on here??

After 3 months of all nighters my 82 gs1100ez started up right away and is running great....with one issue left to crack. it fills my garage with smoke!! so bad that i won't even ride it! it appears that it's coming from the bottom oil pan area. i let it idle for 20 minutes while staring at the oil pan and didn't see a single drop fall on the exhaust ( still has the factory exhaust) the oil pan is a little damp but i cant find anywhere oil might be running down. there was a small leak in the valve cover gasket but that was solved by re tightening the bolts. any ideas anybody?

Take a quart of oil with you, keep an eye on your oil level and take it for a nice long ride. As long as the smoke isn't coming out of the exhaust, my guess is it's just old baked on oil film and it should burn off after awhile.

thanks larry! hey one more question that may be related. when i first put the carbs back on and turned the fuel on, one of the float needles stuck open and alot of gas was dumped onto the tran and ran down into the starter cover.. i changed the oil after that happened but i did start the bike a few times before changing it. you think any of that gas made it to the oil? and should i change it again to flush it before i go on my long ride?

Yes, I think gas got into the crankcase....don't ask me how I know.

After the gas was dumped, the oil and filter should be changed. The bike can be run for maybe 100 miles or so and then change it all again.

Degreased the bottom of the oil pan and fresh oil.. rode 30 miles yesterday with no smoke thanks everyone!

gas gets into the crank by flooding, because the float needle valves are not shutting off, could have been gummed up, or are wore out, but white in oil is water / moisture, or a oil cap left off, (or a piece of $hit pouring water in your oil) lol
