Valve Facing and Lapping - Do I or Don't I?

So, in my rebuild thread, Ed (Nessism) recommended I get my valves faced, and firstly this thread is not to second guess Ed because his advice I have followed so far has been flawless.

However, I've gotten very confused because everywhere I look around the internet and in the Clymer manual etc. I find conflicting information as to whether or not it's safe to face modern valves and if I should lap them in to the seats or not.

So, is there any definitive answer as to whether it's safe or not to do this or if I should be forking out for new valves?

I think my main problem at the moment is that I don't 100% understand what is involved in facing... lapping makes sense to me though.

Yes, have the valves faced if needed, & yes lap them in before reassembly. Ray.

Thanks for the confirmation Ray, I have this bad habit of over-thinking things that sometimes ends up in me questioning good advice.
