    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

strange bogging/stalling issue

I bought my fixer upper this past winter, 82 gs550 w/ 23k miles, 100% stock when I got it. I checked the valves, rebuilt carbs, new plugs, airfilter, coated gas tank, new petcock and all rubber hoses.

I put about 80 solo miles on it on a few different rides no problem. Took the gf out today and after a few miles I noticed it bogging very bad below 4k rpms, kind of like it wasnt getting fuel or had fouled plugs. As I started down shifting and got Above 4k rpms it ran great. I rode it this way for a few more miles. I was low on fuel so I pulled over to put it in reserve just to see if that would help.... well it stalled immediately and would not start for anything. Fuel was low but still plenty left for it to run. I ended up pushing it 1 mile home (lucky I know). Soon as I get it home it started right up. I rode it around 2-3 miles solo and it ran fine, pulled in the drive way and let it idle for 30 seconds at which point it stalled out from low idle. Tried to restart and nothing. Let it sit for 20 minutes then started right up....

I am really stumped on this one and I am afraid to take it out again in fear of getting stranded.. Any ideas?

Sounds like a fuel flow issue. I suggest you check out your petcock and make sure the tank is venting properly. You need to make sure the small hole at the top of the tank filler neck is not plugged with tank sealer.
 
Did you have this problem before you changed out the hoses?

I changed from a 1/4" diameter drip line for my petcock vacuum port that worked well for me last year to a newer 15/32" or whatever I found here (can't remember) this year. It ran fine on the flats but if I went up the hills to the house it would die out. After verifying everything ran fine on prime up the hill, I changed back to the old hose and sure enough it runs fantastic through the hills.

Is there a picture someplace of this hole? I just looked and couldnt find the hole... probably because its covered with tank sealer!

I never had it running before I performed all the work, I did move the petcock to prime and it did nothing.

** I also have a brand new gas cap**
