Fixing a Sagging Pillion Peg

This is the best place I could find for this, so apologies if there's a better forum...

So, I picked up some pillion pegs from who knows what for my 450 and I discovered that the left one has a bit of a sagging issue.

It's still strong enough to hold my weight, but I don't want any questions come safety certificate/registration time, so I should probably do something about making it not so saggy.

Here's the culprit:



I had a close look and it appears the prime reason for the sagging is the hole for the pivot pin as it has elongated noticeably compared to the right side peg's hole.

Would it be safe to weld it a bit and re-drill the hole? I have JB Weld but am not considering that option and think the stick welder is definitely the way to go.

Thoughts?

Oh, and before you suggest just buying another set of pegs, it ain't quite so easy over here and postage from eBay makes them a bit on the expensive side I believe due to weight... I got these pegs from the only local wrecker I know still exists and they were the best fit I could find...

Welding would seem the best... How about finding a piece of thin wall tubing that just fits over the pin and using it as a sleeve to take up the extra space in the mount holes? OR you could drill all 4 of the holes larger to fit the next size up pin?
Just thinkin out loud.

Thanks guys, didn't even think of larger pins! I need that slapping myself in the forehead smiley again...

I'll have a look around and see what I can find, and keep the welding as my backup plan...

Haha it used to be a single seater... then my wife *finally* told me about a year or so ago that she'd consider jumping on the back with me... means I might finally be able to get her on the back of a bike

Pete, there is a portion of the footrest that comes into contact with the main support that is welded to the frame. Hope that makes sense. If you run a bead of weld along this point on the footrest that will stop it from dropping down so far and solve the problem.

Good call Don! I do know exactly what you mean there and that's definitely another way to do it.

Now to get some time to look at it again and work out which way is best...

I think it would too... *if* I can neatly weld a thin bead...
