Throttle cable sticking

Hey guys,

Been awhile.

I fired the zook up this year and it started right up, YES! I put about 100 miles on it the first few days and it ran better than it ever has. Then on my way home from about a 20 mile trip the other day the rpm's were sitting a little high at stops.

I got it to the garage and realized that the throttle was sticking and taking awhile to return. I figured the cables needed to be lubed up? So I removed them and lubed them up and seemed to be moving very freely so I connected them back up. Once connected again, same problem, still sticking.

I thought that maybe my bar end mirror was on too tight and the grip was rubbing against it making it stick, but that wasnt the problem either.

Is there something on the carbs where the cable connects that needs to be lubed up, or could be sticking really bad? When I had the cables off the carb seemd to open up fine and spring back when I pulled it by hand.

Sorry for the rant, but I was excited that she was finally running great and of course something had to happen!

Well, you have a lean mixture due to some cause. Maybe try opening your fuel screws a smig, and check if all your airbox boots are fully sealed.

It could just be a sticking throttle due to a change in position of the bars, rerouting of the cable, a new cable or many other causes that are not a hanging idle. When you are working the throttle with the bike not running, can you see a delay in springback at the carburetor? Do you see a delay in throttle grip return?

Have you made ANY changes to the throttle cable/bars other than the bar end mirrors?

If the cables are adjusted too tight they will bind. Make sure there is a little freeplay (slack).

You should have about 1/8 inch of slack in the cable, and move the handlebars at idle to make sure it does not jack when turning,

Try fresh gas. I have similar problems with the preserved gas from last fall in my tank until I get rid of it.

Let the throttle snap closed, it should make the same "Clack" sound it does without a cable attached to the carburetors. If it doesn't, its a cable issue, they are too tight, routed incorrectly, kinked/worn or something similar.

i had a problem with my throttle sticking once. the little wire that held my clutch cable had gotten bent somehow. the clutch cable on mine was just barely touching the throttle between the #1 and #2 carbs. not sure if it helps but that was my throttle sticking experience.

Ok i think i might be having a similar problem with mine!

I just checked my bike while idling in the drive way and it revs from 1100 rpm to about 3500 when i turn the handle bars to the right and about 2000 when i go to the left.

I'm sure that the cable was routed incorrectly, but what is the proper route for the cable?

not trying to hijack your thread ... maybe you should try the handle bars and see if you've got the same problem!
