    Harbor Freight parts cleaner malfunction

So I bought a HF 3.5 gal P cleaner a year or so ago. Finally filled it to submerse the pump and turned it on. It made noise but no flow. I popped off the hose to see the impeller on the out shaft, it vibrates but does not spin.

Fill is 50/50 Simple Green and water

    Any thoughts? Thanks,
    Pano

I've never seen anyone run water in them. Usually it's kerosene or parts wash or the like. Dunno if that has anything to do with it, just sayin..

Take the pump out of the basin and see if theres a set screw holding the impeller to the motor shaft. tighten or replace if missing.

I dunno bout their "warrnety" program, but their warranty program doesn't usually involve throwing a fit. They just take it back and give you another...

The throwing a fit part was sarcasm...Sounds like this is the maiden voyage and it was broke right from jump street to me.

The label under the cover indicated no flamable solvents. I read a post where Rapidray used 50/50 Simple Green.

Thanks for the link. If a manual came in the kit I usually would have left it inside the unit at least until I first used it. I went to the HF site and searched on parts cleaners and this one did not show up. Lucky for me a new HF opened up in my town, I will be dropping by tomorrow.

I will take a closer look in the am. The internals looked pretty cheap when pulled apart earlier today.

I will see if the impeller/shat assembly is binding up somehow. That is kind of what i looked at today but i will take another look tomorrow....worst case I get a new one at HB tomorrow. Thanks everybody.

I have been using kerosene in mine for about four years.

In fact, had the same three gallons in there for over three years.

HB was going to exchange my pump with the floor model but the new 3.5 gal units are different being made of plastic with a different pump and pump mounting. They said they could get me a replacement pump for free but I chose to purchase a water fountain pump with similar specs. At least they discounted the new pump. I wired it in and I am back in business.
