OK I have a noob question (as a result of a noob action). I laid down my bike Saturday. It was just in a parking lot going 1 or 2 mph. I just turned her too tight and to far over...grunt and thunk, on her left side.

I was able to get her righted quickly, but I noticed that some oil (not much more than a cap or two) came from under the starter cover. Is that normal? I know they aren't meant to be on their sides like that and she has been running fine since (oil level is fine too).

No other damage was done (except to my pride). I'm thinking engine guards/bars might be a good investment before I dress up the engine this fall. LOL

You either lost some oil out of the mystery weep hole... or your o-ring on your starter has failed. Its a quick fix, but by the sounds of it everything is fine. Ride on, sir.

Same thing just happened to me. Put my foot down, into a hole, while stopping. Bike went down faster than I could stop it, and hit the ground, not very heavily considering I slowed down the drop as much as I could. Put it back up right away, and let it sit for about 30 minutes. And it leaked a bit of oil, more than the one or 2 usual drips, but not a huge amount either, maybe a palm sized stain on the ground. But the bike starts and rides fine and the engine guards took the shock. So im hoping it is fine..

I did that once trying swing into a parking place. Thankfully no one was watching. Other than a mirror adjustment, it did no harm to the bike.

I dropped my GS1000 Skunk once. I made a quick left turn as a VW passed through an intersection. It was night and there was about a foot long broomstick handle in the street, the rear tire rolled over it and out went the back end of the bike from underneath me. Anyway the bike went down on it's left side, just hard enough to crack the starter cover, minor leak ensued, I epoxied it.

I tried to start my '72 Honda CB450 once standing next to it. It was in gear and when I hit the starter button it took off without me . Luckily I had crash bars .

I dropped my bike the very first I rode it, I went to go check it out before buying and the guy said I should take it down the street first. I had never ridden a motorcycle or taken the MSF yet and I went down a block and tried to make a tight u turn. Luckily no one saw

I guess it does happen! If no problem to the bike, only hurts the ego for a few days, but yeah it happens!

Kind of. The DR 650 rolled back and fell over as I was parking the DR 200 over in the gravel. Forgot about the 200. Went to pick the 650 up up, the DR 200 fell somehow, knocking the 650G (with the brand new paint job) over. Fortunately there was no damage to the paint...
