FIX for Gas Cap rubber not sealing well

I have an '82 GS 450 T and the rubber inside the gas cap that seals agains the gas tank is a bit worn. Instead of spending all sorts of money on trying to replace it, I cut a donut size (of the approrpiate dimensions) piece out of an unused windshield suction cup. This is the kind used to hold the GPS, Phones, etc.

I place it between the rubber and flat metal support ring. This gave just enough additional pressure so now when I pop the cap on the tank it seals very well.

    Just passing it along!

I'm having a hard time picturing what you've done. Can you post pictures of the fix?

    Thank you.

I'd like to see this as well. My cap seal is pretty dry and cracked also.
