Not so long ago I asked a question about carb boots here and some people don't seem to worry much about them. I evern put some photo's on before. The photo's now will show you how good a 30 year old carb boot really is. Don;t forget to look at the rubber rings. I drove this bike home and it was easy to start up. Two out of 4 rubber o rings split up.

yes! i don't like taking chances anymore on the intake pipes as they are called.. if you grasp and pull, some will separate quite easily from the metal..that is a recipe for disaster as in BURNED VALVEComment

The outer rubbers on the air filter side have a metal ring inside them. But how do you get them fitted when the metal ring is inside them????
It was hard to get them out with the metal ring on them. But getting them back in there is even worse. Or do they get left out?Comment

Better to put those rings back but if the rubbers fit snugly it's not essential. If you do leave them out just check they are in position after you have put the carbs back - you can accidentally pull one out when reassembling.79 GS1000S

Will I be better fitting the rings after the rubbers are fitted in the air filter housing? As I tried with the metal rings inside them and they won't go in there.Comment

Yes - put the rubbers in first an then pop the rings in. Use silicon spray to lubricate. They are buggers to get back in sometimes.79 GS1000S

i set the rings inside the boot. attach the boot to the airbox, then sneak the ring into place. lots of lube; spray silicone or armour allComment

Today I fitted the carb boots but I wasn't sure which one had to go where as I had two partnumbers. Only after looking into the boots I could see the right way to fit them.
To realise after that they had L or R on the boots. So learned someting again
.
