New here, got a 550E question

Hi everyone, first off, great forum. Tons of great info on all things GS. A little about myself. I have been riding motorcycles for over 15 years. I have maintained them myself as to my abilities. My favorite of course is nothing but Suzuki, but I currently own everything from the big jap 4 to Hodakas, bridgestones, Fuji....and 1 old Harley. Well last weekend, I went out to the "stash" and dug out a 1979 Suzuki GS550E. In really good condition, but of course it has been sitting. So I went through it, tires, oil, chain, sprockets, etc.. The thing runs great. I have put a few hundred miles on it, but today I get home from a ride and it had been spewing Battery acid out of the battery drain tube. SO I immediately wash everything off and take the battery out.... This battery is only a week old and brand new. What would be causing this?

    Thank you all in advance,
    Todd

    Over charging?

Just a guess - probably wrong.
1982 GS1100E V&H "SS" exhaust, APE pods, 1150 oil cooler, 140 speedo, 99.3 rear wheel HP, black engine, '83 red

2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.

Probably right, it's really common on old bikes that have sat.

Yes, overcharging is probably what is occurring. Any hints as to what should be the first thing I look at?
