Oil change fail, possible stripped nuts

Hey guys, I was doing my oil change on my 400 s when I noticed 2 things. My oil sump nut would not tighten and oil kept leaking out of my oil filter cover. So I gave them a few more turns, now two out of the three nuts will not come off no matter how much I rotate them.
I feel like such an idiot now when I was just trying to give my bike an oil change.

    What are my options?

Threads are likely stripped. You can get the acorn nuts off easily enough, just put a screwdriver behind them and apply a bit of pressure while you slowly turn them out. You'll have to have a look at the thread to see if it can be saved. Maybe you'll be lucky, if not you'll have to replace them. Not a hard job and if you're lucky the nut and bolt shop over on Davies might have the studs you need.

If the engine threads are stripped you can always get a helicoil kit and repair the damage. Properly done it will be stronger than it was originally. I bought a 6mm helicoil kit with everything I needed for under $40. It came with enough inserts to do 10 holes. Shop around and probably find it a lot cheaper.

Thanks guys for the advice, I was complete freaked when it happened. I seriously thought I screwed up my bike and it would be an expensive fix.

I thought that was happening to me one time but it just turns out the studs the acorn nuts screw onto were loosening and backing out. You could maybe keep turning and see if the whole stud comes out. If so, just put it back in good and tight.

Worst case, order up some new studs and nuts. Chalk it up to normal maintenance for a 32 year old motorcycle.

When reading stories like this the first thing that comes to mind is to ask if you have ever performed a valve adjustment?
