    speedo drive gear

I've noticed that my drive gear is on the right side fork tube, I thought it showed it on the left side in the clymer manual, I am just another random owner thats correcting other owners problems. This bike had no gauges and I'm mounting some early 70's guages but the way the drive gear is cocked up towards the caliper and disc I think it should be mounted on the left side of the bike. from all the experiance here I thought you all could shed some light, is it possible that the wheel is mounted backwards or with the drive gear on the opposite side?

The front rim has two slots where the drive gear seats into. Those slots are only on the left side, if the gear is actually in those slots (and not just bashed onto the rim) then he has the wheel backwards.
