82' GS 650 GL Shaft: my stator cover was cracked (over the logo) and needed replace. There was no obvious damage to the stator or wires. I now have the new (used) cover and new Suzuki stock gasket.
I was hoping to just unbolt the old cover, Scrape old gasket off, unscrew the stator from the old cover and transfer to the new cover, imstall gasket and cover.
However, I watched a youtube video and the poster metioned (I think) something about having to replace the stator AND cover as one full unit. Is this correct? Is it possible to just move the stator to one cover to the new one and just reinstall (assuming the stator is still good)?
After reading BassCliff's notes on the 850 It seems I can just replace the stator from one cover to the next.
Do I have to install the gasket "dry" or does it require some oil apllied to it before install?
Thanks for any help.
