1980 GSX 750 Es ...another oil light question....

hi all spent last hour reading all the oil light threads. here's what happened today, don't know if any difference.
bike been started on and off for last month, cant recall oil light coming on at all...
took out for first decent drive today, got about 10 miles, and front left indicator blew, and oil light came on at same time, coincidence?
just took it as an electrical problem, maybe foolishly. drove back 10 miles, replaced indicator bulb which now fine,but light remains on, took wire off and touched it on and off the oil pressure sender unit, on and off, still on when running.
will check plunger on sender unit in the morning, oil was apparently changed just before got bike.
my question is ,can it still be an electrical fault, even if goes on off like that? Grasping at straws maybe. and can a oil pressure sender be faulty, even if the light is coming on when touching, and plunger working? Definitely grabbing at straws!
any help and advice appreciated, as ever, cheers.

Have just removed oil pressure switch from bike,cleaned it and put back..my one doesn't have a plunger? It just threads into the oil filter casing like a bolt would,with the wire to light screwed in to top. The wire was bent and bare,so could well have been touching the casing,causing the light to go on,cleaned it,taped it up,and now lights against engine,but doesn't light at all when reattatched,and egnition on. Have ordered new switch, can anyone tell me how switch works without plunger? Ps have checked oil,looks brand new,and no hint of gas.

The new sending unit (switch) probably will fix it, since you say it lights up when wire is grounded to engine . This appears to be plain bearing crankshaft so make sure you got oil pressure . Is this a new to you bike??

we live in hope!! yip, new to me, and many years have passed since had a bike, so confidence low. Is it fairly easy to check oil pressure on bike?

Hope is close to Wit's end, best to head to Sure. You said "apparently oil was changed"- why not pop off oil filter cover and inspect the PO's handiwork? You can find amazing things this way !
your bike's oil system is like mine- fairly high pressure, low volume. Once you know you got oil filter in right way, you could take off sender , put finger over sender's hole and crank it briefly. Very briefly!

Wise words indeed! That makes a lot of sense,I take it if there no pressure no oil will come firing out the hole? From what you say,is it possible for the oil filter to have been put in back to front,or have I read that wrong?! Have ordered sensor,and a new set of manifold inlet rubbers,so will get a gallon of oil too,and make a day of it...

The right oil filter only fits one way, but make sure it's there and appears to be right and newish (or just get new one for about $5 to be safe). New intake rubbers are nice and of course, you've done a valve adjustment after reading on here ??

There's so much to do.....there was me in my wee happy place thinking I would get bike n drive into the sunset...ha! Valve adjustment very next on the list,by the time I have do the other bits and pieces should be feeling brave enough to tackle that.
And yes,have been very slow getting pictures/profile together have great intentions then get distracted! Will take some outside photos tomorrow. Am in Edinburgh Scotland by the way,you been a big help,appreciated,parts arrive Tuesday /Wed,so will update then,thanks again!

light fixed! it turned out to be the sender unit right enough. took out the sender put finger over hole,cranked it over and pressure built up quite strong so that has to be a good thing. the new sender has brought oil light on, and going off straight away when cranked,so think that sorted. going to replace oil ,after checking oil filter,then on to valves, then the manifold inlet rubbers....may not be this week, as weather over here has gone downhill!! will keep you posted,thanks for all your help up to now,will get back as soon as any progress

Ps,just got 15/40 diesel car oil,it non synthetic,I remember in another pet it saying to check the api speck...this on says API CH-4/SL and below ACEA B3,B4,E3,E5,A3,it does say for more modern engines,if someone could let me know if this looks suitable,be appreciated as ever,cheers

That oil sounds ok, the shell Rotella lots of us use says CJ-4 - likely an improvement over the CH-4 classification. Now get back to sorting out electrical issues.... Have you done posplayr's quick test?

Think I might have reposted original post..trying to do this on phone,and easy messed up! That electrics all now doing what they should,so waiting for a gap in the weather to get on with valves and inlet manifold rubbers. Thanks for letting me know about oil too. Will come back with report on progress next week,cheers ��
