    Part number please!

    Hello All,

I jumped on my newly acquired '79 GS850GN this morning for a short ride and noticed my speedo needle was not moving.
I'm going to start with replacing the cable so my question to forum members is, can anyone tell me the Suzuki part no. For the speedo cable. I would like to stick to genuine Suzuki parts if possible.
I see there is currently a cable for sale on eBay over here in the UK. It's listed as being for an 850G but doesn't state what year. I don't know if there was a change in parts over the years.

    Thanks for reading!

No change in speedo cables for any of the 850G years that I know of, but you can use any of the online vendors to get a part number.

Not sure what you have on your side of the "pond", but my favorite over here is Parts Outlaw.

Your speedo cable part number is 34910-45114.

    EDIT/CORRECTION

Apparently the '79 850 had a unique (to the 850) cable that was shared with the 450s. Starting in '80, there were no further speedo cable changes.

Is it possible to check the cable off the bike? I am wondering if it makes sense for the OP to just start replacing things, or if there is a way to diagnose the cause, or at least rule out non contributors.

If it's this one then according to the part number on the packaging, it's not the right one.

Pull the inner cable out and connect it up to the speedo and to a cordless or regular drill and see what happens
