Recvounter drive oil leak

I bought a GS1000G a day or so ago. The front of the engine was very oily but brushing some Gunk on and blasting it off with water has got it pretty clean. Started it up afterwards and found an oil drip forming within a minute, on the revcounter cable just ahead of its exit from the drive unit. Oil is leaking at quite a rate from here and I'm hoping it was the sole cause of the mess on the engine.

Is this a common issue on these? Is it a simple fix? I need a proper manual and parts book - any recommendations for online freebies? If I have to buy them, where's the best source?

I did mine and it was pretty easy. Hardest part was getting the stripped bolt out.

What do you use to lubricate the cable going to the tach? I pulled the cable out of the mount and found some very thin white oil. I'm guessing it was lithium grease when it was fresh.
