1981 GS650G choke adjustment?

I dont have any of the original tools. I really dont like using a screw driver to tap the choke knob out or in. Is there a specific tool Suzuki made to adjust the choke. My hands and arms are WAY to big ti reach in and adjust it.

There's a knob on the end of the choke cable. Sits up on the steering head. Is yours missing?

I am trying to picture that in my mind.

The only two adjustments that I know of are the slack adjuster at the carbs and the threaded nut at the steering stem.
I don't remember either of them needing a screw driver.

Probably frozen choke cable, so get new one- maybe $16 and stop beating on it!

Nope- remove gas tank and it's readily accessible. Impossible comes later with carb removal/reinstall to do a proper carb cleaning.

You're calling it the 'choke knob' when it's really the idle adjustment knob, right? and tapping gently on one of the raised knurls with a light hammer tap and the right sized screwdriver in the direction you want to go won't do anything, except raising or lowering the idle, hopefully.

Yes,, you are probably in tune with this guy! I have small heat resistant hands so easy for me to reach in and adjust mine. Of course, last time that I did was maybe 4 years ago- set And forget.

i have big hands and have never had issues adjusting that screw... with or without gloves

I think you might be looking at the idle adjustment knob

For that you could use a screwdriver to turn, if its bushing is bad. No reason at all to do so if the carbs are clean and the tuning is good.

As mentioned, the choke adjustment on your year 650 should be a pull knob in the middle of the steering head. If that and its cable are missing, then you can always use the end of the choke rail on the left hand side of the carbs to hold the choke open during warmup.
