Fitting higher bars to GS1000?

The standard bars on my GS1000G (European model) are too low and narrow for my aching wrists. If I could swap them for bars a couple of inches higher and wider I'd have a much more comfortable time riding it.

My question is, has anyone on here done such a swap? I'm not talking about the high US bars as fitted to the US (L?) models, more like the bars Z900s came with. Cables may need changing, but longer cables are available. But is there enough slack in the brake hose and the wiring to allow bars say 2 inches higher and total 2" wider to be used?

I have SP 400 trail bike bars on mine which are about 5" rise total, you have to get a longer clutch cable, however the brake hose is long enough if you remove the guide bracket on the clock fixing bolt, best get the longer one when you upgrade to braided, switch wires are ok.

If the Euo-bars are causing you to put pressure on your wrists you're probably sitting too far aft.

I've just fitted a set of Honda ST1100 bars to mine. They're not chrome though, so depends on what stock you put by appearance over fit. My previous bars were off some smaller bike, lost in the mists of time, but they met my requirements admirably, giving me a perfect long-distance touring posture behind a fairing / screen.

Are the Euro-spec bars different than the US-spec bars?

I have found the US-spec G bars to be rather comfortable, especially behind a windshield.

The Tommaselli "medium" bend are 72cm wide, just about the rise you want, and a pleasant pullback,;
No need to mod the cables, but the brake master cyl reservoir sits a bit slanted, I keep the level always topped up.
They are defenetly more confortable than the previous ones.
