    oil spot under stator cover on 83 gs 1100 ed

    assuming bad seal dyna 2000 in place
    any tips tricks or tools required greatly appreciated

    Sitting on bike, stator cover is on left.... Dyna ignition would be on other side. Where is your leak?

      Leak is on right ignition pu cover

        Then you have a bad crankshaft seal, it should be dry in there. It can be fixed fairly easily without tearing the engine apart....

          And don't install your new seal BACKWARDS!!!! The black, rubber side, goes INSIDE toward the rods!!!

              One of my old GS's had a leak that was coming from a crankcase screw. The case sealer had failed in the area of the screw in question and oil ran down the screw hole and out. I didn't want to split the cases so I found a copper washer and threw that on the screw in question, one of the screws holding the crank bearings, and torqued it down to resolve the problem. Reason for sharing this story is to highlight the need to find the source of the leak. Like the others have said it's most likely the crank seal, but don't assume too much.
