1981 Gs550L wont start after warming up.

I apologize in advance if this has been solved before, I've been having a hard time digging around for information about my problem.

The 550L will start up without any problems and it rides great for about half an hour or so, but if I kill the engine I cant get it to turn over for at least a day. the only things I've noticed is that it idles way too high and that I have oil leaking out of the top of my crankcase and from where the tachometer connects to the engine itself. The oil smells a little like gas.
I'm not sure if the kid I bought it off flooded the engine, he told me he only rode it twice in two years.

Check the Newbie Mistakes link in my signature. I'm afraid I can recognize several already.

You would be wise to park the bike and do some maintenance before anything else goes wrong or you get hurt.

    Good luck

Heed Nessism's advice as you likely have a bunch of problems. Your petcock either has failed or is left in wrong position causing gas to fill crankcase.
Best to figure that bike is 30 years overdue for maintenance.
