    Where did this come from?

I am at the final stages of re-assembling my GS850 which was a basket case.
I have a clip in left over bin that I cannot identify.
Does it even come from this bike and if so where?
    See photo.

Just throwing out a guess, but is it a wire retainer from inside the stator cover?

Does not look like a stator wire retainer.

I don't recognize it, and I have an 850 somewhat like yours.

It belongs to the helmet lock, on the right side of the frame just behind the seat lock.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a winner!
This might be a fun game. I'm going to look around my parts bin and see if I can "Stump the Chumps".

AZR: Many thanks. I placed it up against the helmet holder and it looks like it might go there so you may well be correct. However I just cannot yet fathom how it attaches. Given time it will sort out.
I thank others who responded and definitely bot from stator area.

I just took the exact same clip off the helmet holder on my 78 GS750. It attaches with a short screw that goes in from the left side. The end of the clip should be close to the frame with some clearance for the helmet clip to hang on the part that is on the frame (if that makes sense???)

If I get an opportunity ,or maybe someone else can faster, I'll post up a picture. It just bolts in with the 'tang' pointing down. A picture will tell all.
