Hi I am going to tour Portugal in July for ten days so will be clocking up mileage what's the general opinion
of running the oil to three thousand miles?

Do it, don't worry about a 3000 mile oil change, she can handle it
1978 Gs1085 compliments of Popy Yosh, Bandit 1200 wheels and front end, VM33 Smoothbores, Yosh exhaust, braced frame, ported polished head
1983 Gs1100ESD, rebuild finished! Body paintwork happening winter 2017:D

I would rather trust my bike to a technician that reads the service manual than some backyardigan that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix things.

I only change my oil at 3000 isn't that OEM suggested interval?

IMHO the longer runs are easier on the oil and I would let it run to 3000 on mineral oil, longer on a synthetic, if away from home.

I agree, 3000 miles will be a piece of cake.

If you are worried about it at all, use synthetic oil.
