The springs that go under the the pins that hold the pads were missing when I bought the bike only noticing it now are absolutely necessary?.

The springs that go under the the pins that hold the pads were missing when I bought the bike only noticing it now are absolutely necessary?.

They will still work, but I believe they are used to keep tension on the pads to keep them from moving from vibration around on the pins, which in turn may cause them to be noisy. That may also cause quicker and uneven wear.
