79 Suzuki gs550 recommended oil
I have a 79 Suzuki gs550 and am from Canada. Can anyone recommend an oil to run in the motorcycle? The bike says it wants 10W-40 and it doesn't get overly hot here in the summer - usually between 20-30 Celsius (70 to 85 Fahrenheit) with falling more in the lower range of that. I've read about oil having a high zinc content. Any Canadians have an oil they love running? And where to purchase it? For what it's worth I currently have Castrol GTX in it.Tags: None -
Any 10w-40 will be just fine.'20 Ducati Multistrada 1260S, '93 Ducati 750SS, '01 SV650S, '07 DL650, '01 DR-Z400S, '80 GS1000S, '85 RZ350 -
I run Shell Rotella diesel oil in my motorcycles now. Not the synthetic stuff! I use to run Castol GTX in all my engines years ago, but I think it was because I was a John Force fan.Last edited by storm 64; 08-01-2017, 10:00 PM.My Motorcycles:

yes any modern oil will more than meet the spec your bike wanted when new
I use rotella something somethin cheap at walmart and works fine
so cheap I can drain it at will
as for it not getting very warm its not that it rarely does its that it might one day on a long haul1983 GS 550 LD

I wouldn't run GTX. That stuff, like all auto oils, have drastically reduced ZDDP compared to back in the day. Get Shell Rotella instead. It's 15W-40 but GS bikes love the stuff.Ed
To measure is to know.
