Rear sprocket change question.
Hello! I ordered some new parts and wanted to put them on. I quickly realized that my new sprocket will not fit as there is a locator pin protruding off my (hub)? I'm not sure the parts name.
Do I have the wrong parts or do I need to drill out a hole in the sprocket? Do I need to remove the pin?

Never seen that before, but they may have been there originally. If it were me I would remove the pin.sigpic

I'd remove the pin. Looks like something the previous owner added. But I could be wrong...My Motorcycles:

Like with pliers or something? It didn't want to come out with my hand strength. It doesn't actually go all the way through the hub.Comment

It looks factory, there is a flat where the pin is installed but all the other spaces between bolts are relieved. My 1100E doesn't have it either. I agree with you that removing the pin seems most practical.
It looks like a roll pin in the picture so a set of vise grips and a board to lever against (to avoid scarring the hub) should have it removed without too much trouble.

Just try and pull it out with pliers or lever it out with a big pair of side cutters. If it breaks off just file it flat. Kind of weird and
like others here I've never seen that locator pin on a sprocket hub before. What year and model?'84 GS750EF (Oct 2015 BOM) '79 GS1000N (June 2007 BOM)Comment

Good observation Mark, maybe someone will chime in that seen this before. What motorcycle does his hub belong to? Maybe a early model, and Suzuki discontinued the sprocket pinning process...My Motorcycles:

Got it out and new sprocket on. You guys happen to know the torque specs? Also, are the metal locking pads reusable? Or am I ****ing up?

18-29 foot/pounds is what I have in my Suzuki manual (or nice and tight). Sure you can reuse the lock tabs, but only once or twice. I wouldn't go more than that, it's a judgment call on your part...Got it out and new sprocket on. You guys happen to know the torque specs? Also, are the metal locking pads reusable? Just looked at your picture. Bend the virgin part of the tab on to the nut. It will be fine.Last edited by storm 64; 10-04-2017, 07:44 PM.My Motorcycles:

I don't know the torque specs off hand, but your factory service manual does. Download it here: http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/Got it out and new sprocket on. You guys happen to know the torque specs? Also, are the metal locking pads reusable? Or am I ****ing up?

The locking tabs are definitely reusable. I use a touch of blue loctite instead myself, looks cleaner and is perfectly secure.
