    Rear rack fitment

    Ad shows it came off of an 80 GS1000L. Im unfamiliar with all the year changes on this GS. Does anyone know if it would fit a 78? The one that came off of it looks similar but have been unable to find in the pile o parts.

    There is no 78 GS 1000L

    They have different frames, so check pictures on Google

    Looks like the rear mount is much higher on the L
    1978 GS 1000 (since new)
    1979 GS 1000 (The Fridge, superbike replica project)
    1978 GS 1000 (parts)
    1981 GS 850 (anyone want a project?)
    1981 GPZ 550 (backroad screamer)
    1970 450 Mk IIID (THUMP!)
    2007 DRz 400S
    1999 ATK 490ES
    1994 DR 350SES

      The big thing that I look for is the rear mount that can curl under the tail fairing. It appears that rack might have that feature.

      Not sure what the other 'legs' are, though.

          The biggest difference in rack mounts is that a rack for an L does not have to reach under the edges of the tail fairing.

          Otherwise, I think the mounts should be rather similar.

                  I have one of those, it is pretty much a universal rack and shouldn't be too hard to fit.
