    1984 GS400S or GS400E ?

    Hello everybody,

My wife bought a 1984 GS400S but when I look at the VIN label it says GS400E 03/83. How do I know the exact model of the bike? It does not seem altered, all original, the registration papers are for a 1984 GS400S ...

Another question, concerning the parts, wich year can be used for repair? And what manual repair I should use ???

    Thanks!

Wow, that's a neat looking bike! Good luck on your project!

Since the VIN label states 03/83 that bike normally be a 1983 Model Year bike, but in this case I'm not sure. This parts fishe suggests an s model 1984 MY bike. https://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-gsx400s.../#.W0Y1LtVKios

That is a neat bike. I sure hope you get it on the road.
Ive seen lots of vehicles with date stamps that are from the previous year so Im not at all surprised the paperwork lists it as an 84.

Yes, the 3/83 date suggests an '83 bike, but some places will title it as the first year it was sold.

If it was left over, it might have been sold in '84 and titled accordingly.

Hi, it looks like a late model gsx 400e, 4 valves per cylinder, don't think they were imported into USA, only Europe & Canada.

The S models had a fairing.Otherwise, they are the same. See fiche link that nessism posted. Someone pinched your fairing perhaps.

Haynes has a manual that covers your bike. Still available, I think.

              Thanks for the parts list!

For the date it's probably like auto manufacturing, made in 83 for the year 84?

The bike worked very well 2 years ago, it was stored 2 winter in a barn. I will try to start it this summer! I think this forum will be very useful for me.

The bike is in good condition, the fuel tank has a bump, the shaft is welded on the chain sprocket and the carburetor is leaking, these are the only problem I found at the moment!
