Speedometer eliminator

Hi all, hopefully someone can help, is there a way to eliminate the speedometer drive on the GS, i know when I built an xs650 there was a machined aluminum piece to take it’s place, is there something for the GS that does that? So I can remove the speedo gear box. Thanks for any help

Evidently you have also removed the speedometer?

Why not just remove the cable?

Have not seen this request before, as most of us live where the local laws require a speedometer and odometer on the bike.

Had one bike without instruments for 15 years in IL...no problem at all.

Take the speedometer to a machine shop and ask them to make a spacer to replace the meter.
personally I would prepare to have one on my bike in fact I think it is a mandatory requirement here in the uk for road use.

Seems potty to me some states require an odometer but not a speedometer, that's if I am reading it correctly 🤔

The drive on the front wheel? Not sure why you would bother but if it's like mine you can stop it spinning by cutting away the "interlock" tabs that mate with the wheel hub OR I even think it should come apart if you remove the circlip... Either way, you can then just keep the shell as the spacer. If that doesn't suit, making a spacer-bushing or 'finding one" inside the disassembled drive can't be that hard.

I'd assume you're going to replace it with a gps type? (Steve's pdf says Connecticut requires a speedo). Be aware gps speedos have "lag"..the speed from a few seconds behind .Or, perhaps you're going to place a magnet sensor type...likely better.....BUT, a stickler (or the insurance adjuster!) MIGHT note that some kind of standards apply to any gauge in the USA and Canada: DOT? ISO? something like that....

cheap Ebay stuff generally won't comply.
