    Gs850gx clutch cable

Hi, does anyone know the difference of the clutch cable fitted to the 1981 gs850x as opposed to the 1982,83 and 84 models.
The 81 has a adjuster mid cable as well as the adjuster on the clutch operating arm.(do you ever use the mid adjuster) whereas the 82,83 and 84 does not.
they are two different part numbers but was wondering is anyone has fitted the 82,83 or 84 to a 1981?
Was thinking that they cannot be greatly different.

I have used aftermarket clutch cables once or twice and they didn't last anything like as long as the OEM ones. As far as OEM ones go, I've always fitted the ones with mid-length adjuster and once it's set, never had to alter it. It basically sets the cable to be the exact length you need for your bike and your cable routing.
Of course, the end adjusters will need re-setting once in a blue moon.

I have had a few 850s come through here. Most have been "catch and release", but a few have stayed. Some of them have come with the mid-cable adjuster, others did not have one. Have not paid much attention to which years had them. I have only purchased a couple of cables. One for an '80, the other for an '82. I don't really remember if the '80 had the adjuster or not, but I will be working on it in the next day or three, I'll try to remember to check.

Another nifty feature of the '82 OEM cable is a rubber coushion where the oil pressure sensor is. Also a thicher sheath at friction points like going between #1 and#2 carbs and up over the head. Some of those spots wore through on my aftermarket cable.

Not sure if other year GS cables have those features, but the OEM is hands down better quality.

          I got an aftermarket cable.
No mid section adjuster, nor sheath reinforcement and the inner was the wrong length.
The bottom adjuster ended up hanging on by a thread or two.
