Can anyone tell me if a 1980 gas tank will fit on a 1979 gs1000E. I recently purchased a tank from Ebay thinking that it would but sure enough it doesnt. I would like to know that it is for sure a tank from a 1980 gs1000. Also I am still in need of a tank for a 1979 gs1000E so if you know of a tank that that's available at a reasonable price let me know tjat as well thanks.

Petcock sizing is different.

Petcock placement is different, the 80 is farther back to not hit the CV carb tops
But, it will fit as long as you use the 80 Petcock, or a substitute Petcock
