Mechanic in New England for my 80 gs550?

Does anyone know of a good mechanic/shop near nh or Maine? I have been paying a local shop to learn about my bike with predictable results....

Mark, look up member Jedz123. Justin lives in Vermont, but he roams far and wide. Not a mechanic by trade, but he's owned and worked on his own varied stable of makes and models and put a lot of miles and maintenance into them. He may be able to help you find a reputable shop if he can't help you himself.

If the mechanic isn't at least 10 years older than your bike, don't let him touch it
This entire website, and the companion Basscliffs site, is the accumulated centuries of knowledge about working on GS bikes. Read up and spend your $$ on tools, rather than mechanics

I have enjoyed the forum and i like to work on my bikes- to a point. I am not interested in engine rebuilding or major carb work. As Clint Eastwood said, a man?s got to know his limitations....and i am 25 years older than my bike so unlikely to change....so i will ride my other bikes and the 80 550 will be garage art until i find someone to properly rebuild the carbs....

What^^he said, + it's not as hard as you might imagine. There are tutorials on here that will walk you right through everything you need to know.

Hardest part is getting the carb rack off on the 550 and 650 bikes. Then ,as mentioned, you can send your carbs to a member here who will do it right.

Hope everyone remembers what Big T said in post #3. If the bike is older than the mechanic, you can't expect much. Not their fault they've never seen an old GS1000, heck I need to look for a while to find one.
