Clutch slip

Hello folks,

I'm a reltive newbie to the GSX1100, only having had mine for a month or so.

anyway.

its an 82 model with almost 100,000kms on the clock. the motor has had new rings, the spark plugs on inspection had signs of oil on them so the motor is getting tired.

the clutch howeverm slips alot when any decent power is applied. it hold s and then the revs fly up around 6000 rpm and just remain sky high, with no perceived increase in acceleration.

this leads me to believe it's a slipping clutch.

I tried adjusting the clutch cable but to no avail.

the bike when in neautral also tends to sounds clunky from the clutch side of things.

any one expereinced similar issues with theirs? If so how can i fix this.

Yep your clutch is toast, or the springs have backed off, betting clutches are bad though.

Remove the clutch cover (right side of bike when setting on it), remove the Bolts holding the springs, remove the Outer Hub, then remove the fibers and steels.

Pay attention to the order you remove them, face them DOWN (keeps the side facing you down) as you pull them out.

Check your STEELS and make sure they are not warped or burnt looking, if they are you'll need a COMPLETE clutch pack (steels & fibers), not just the Fibers.

To check the steels and see if they are warped, (clean all the oil off them first) get a piece of plate glass, and lay them 1 at a time on the glass, then check for gaps between the glass and ANY part of the flat side of the steels.
If they have ANY warping to them (steels), disscard and get a new set.

Re-install new ones in the same order you pulled the old ones out.

example, fiber-steel-fiber-steel..

Some steels have a sharp edge side and a radiusd side, pay attention to which side is facing the motor, re-install the SAME way to take them out.

price for a new set of fibers is $40-80.oo, depending on the place you buy.

Hello. first make sure you have enough clutch lever play so the clutch is not partially disengaged when lever is out. If this is not the case then pull your clutch cover off and check out the condition of your clutch discs and spacers. You will need to remove six bolts and the clutch basket to do the inspection. The clutch discs should not be shiny and glazed over looking like a glass surface and also measure the thickness of both the discs and spacers. If any of these conditions are present then proceed to get another set of discs and spacers if neccessary also a spring kit while your at it. Good luck!

Clutch Slips

Did it come on suddenly & after just changing oil? Did you change brands of oil?This happened to me on a 1980 850G it had run on Castrol & I switched to Valvoline. The clutch slipped w/i 5 miles.I put heavy duty springs & never had a problem since.I don't run Valvoline w/wet clutch-period!Love it for cars though!

Check for gas in the oil.
