Ordered Exhaust! Now, jetting :-)
Made a purchase of a Vance and Hines Megaphone 4 into 1 System today. I'm excited :-). Anyway, V&H recommends upping mains to 115 and pilot jets to 17.5. I have pods and would like to use them, what jets should I really be getting? Also, I am wondering about raising the needle. How is this done? V&H recommends raising the needle "one notch". I dont remember seeing any notches on my carbs when I cleaned them.Tags: None

I can't help you exactly, but I have an 82 1100E that I am about to jet for pods. Stock mains are 107.5 and I expect to end up around 137.5's. I do not plan to change the pilots unless I cannot get close enough with mixture screw adjustments. This should give you an idea of the amount of change to expect.Anyway, V&H recommends upping mains to 115 and pilot jets to 17.5. Depends on the year of your bike. My 82 1100 has adjustable needles (Canadian edition), while the same year US spec bike does not (I believe). The notches are at the top of the needles where the the E-clip is. You should have VM carbs (help here, somebody?) and my understanding is they are fully adjustable. This means that you should be able to get the jetting sorted without resorting to a Dynojet kit. Also, I am wondering about raising the needle. How is this done? V&H recommends raising the needle "one notch". I dont remember seeing any notches on my carbs when I cleaned them.
The main trick in sorting carbs is to be very methodical and careful and work through one circuit at a time. It is best to start at the bottom and work up, sorting the pilot circuit, then the needle, then the main jet. The pilot and needle affect the main setting, so if you start with the main jet you may have to change it after setting the lower cicuits. To sort the pilot and needle circuits you do not even have to have a main jet installed, so if you are waiting on mains you can still get the others straightened out while you wait.

if you go with pods you may want to consider getting a stage three jet kit as it has more options and imformation .one thing for sure jetting with pods can be a real test of patience.

I too went to 115 mains but I didn't mess with my pilot jets. I suppose that could be the reasoning for my weak low rpm response but I'm not messing with trying to figure out what size pilots to put in.Originally posted by pasteurizedMade a purchase of a Vance and Hines Megaphone 4 into 1 System today. It took me 3 straight months of testing, riding and retesting to get my carbs to the point that they're at now. And I STILL don't have the low speed jetting exactly right...but im darn close!

Gah! I think I am going to say the heck with the pods. I have the stock airbox, I am just afraid that the connectors will leak. It's all good, I don't need the pods. Just figured it would be cleaner that way, but I want to RIDE not tune all summer. I will go ahead and score the 115 mains and 17.5 pilot jets that V&H recommends and call it good.

Good choice. Stay away from pods unless you want to really get good at taking off the carbs! I can pull the tank and carbs and rejet the main, pilot and needle and re-install it all in under an hour!Currently bikeless

If you require a stage 3 kit, I have one for sale...cheap. I ended going to Mikuni flat slides after I ordered the kit for my CV's. Let me know if you need them
Kind regards...Craig
