Electrex R/R feedback

Does anyone have any experience with any of the Electrex R/R? I'm thinking about replacing ye old Suzuki R/R since she is putting out 17 V at anything over idle.

I've had mine for about two years with no problem. But I'm kind of unusual in the fact that my stock R/R lasted over 22 years before it laid down on me.

I'ved used Elextrex R/.R's on various bikes over the years. I've never had any problems with them. I'v currently using a Ricks R/R on my 1150 as at the time I needed one, it was available and the Electrex was not in stock.
I've had no problems with the Ricks either and it was about $40 less than an Electrex.

I would replace that overvoltage R/R ASAP!. 17 volts is a more serious problem than not charging at all.

Hi Guys

I've got an old 84 GS1100GKE that had the same problem a few years ago and was boiling the battery dry every day while I was on a trip to the west coast. I made it home and replaced the R/R with a Suzuki replacement part (didn't know about this web site or Electex parts then (By the way, they have changed names now to ElectroSport Industries and are at https://www.electrosport.com)

Now last week I was out for a short ride and it started missing and fooling around so I headed for hoe and just pulled into the driveway when it quit. Battery dead! It's not charging and it appears the stator is toast! Checks out with an ohmeter but it's only putting out about 7AC volts on the open curcuit test instead of 80 to 90 AC volts like the manual says.

At 7 volts AC, we can say for sure, Yep, stator is dead. Usually, a stator will last almost forever. I have never had a stator go bad that is was not the R/R that was the cause of it. After replacing the stator, I would double check the R/R output to be sure it is within specs. If it is not, the new stator will be toast very shortly.
