    Rear tire sizing....

I have a '81 GS750L that I am in the process of making a chopper out of. I am using the rims off of a '85 GS700ES. The rear presently has a 130, going to a 180 would be stretching it eh? Can anyone give me an idea of the widest tire I can mount on the rear rim?

Do a search here on "GS750ES tire" or "GS700 tire", its a common topic but I think a 130 is about the biggest most people run. Something about the rim being too narrow for more tire. Off the top of my head I think the rim size is 2.5inx17in

Almost every tire manufacturer, on their website, has a chart stating which tire sizes are good for what size rims. Vary too much from that, and you're probably asking for trouble.

For a 180 you need about a 4 1/2" rim. The GS will not do it. You will need a later model wheel something from a GSXR ??
