    spark plug gap

Can anybody tell me what the spark plug gap setting is for the 1981 suzuki GS 1000 G. Also is there a hot plug on the market for this engine.

    Horse.

Plug gap is 0.024" to 0.028" or if you prefer to use proper measurements: 0.6mm to 0.7mm.

Why would you want a "hot" plug steve?

I think "hot" and "cold" plugs are often misunderstood. its simply a measure of how fast the plug will transfer its heat to the head, not how hot the spark is.

in exceptionally cold weather, you would run a hotter plug, so it would retain some heat.

the opposite in hot weather. you may want a plug that can transfer heat faster.

The reason I asked is because people will often go to a hoter or colder plug to "fix" a problem that may originate from the carb's ,etc.

Good point. If all else is ok, carb settings, jetting, ignition timing etc, and it's used as a road bike, then there should never be a need to change the heat range.
