    idle gear dowl removal...

It is my first time under the generator cover of my '78 GS1000E. When i removed the cover the dowl/rod of the starter idle gear remained in the cover. All the photos in the manual show it removed. Does it just take a little muscle or is there a trick to getting it out. It makes putting things back together way difficult.
    Any info would be appreciated.

    pin

it should just pull out. only a interferance fit. Dont forget to smear gasket goo near the gasket where the wires run past (on both sides)

The rod just pulls out with your fingers. Its only a slip fit into a bushing set into the cover. Probably some corrosion.

I actually just replaced the cover last night and mine just fell out but it shouldn't be hard at all unless it rusted if there was no oil in the bike for a while
