im looking for 34mm forks for my 79 gs750, i was wondering if the standard model gs850 were 34mm forks. i know the L models are 36mm. was wondering if i could buy a pair off ebay i saw to use on my bike.

I already answered this for you here. I measured my fork tubes with a vernier caliper and got 1.456 inches. This converts to 36.9824 mm. I believe most would call that 37 mm, wouldn't they?

I don't know about the 650G forks, but my '82 GS650GL forks measure 35 mm.
My '82 GS850GL forks measure 37 mm.
